Substation load information

The National Electricity Rules requires us to make available, on request, historical distribution zone substation load information. The information may inform investment decisions and analysis of future trends in electricity demand and supply.

Zone substations form part of the distribution network and connect the higher voltage sub-transmission network (generally 33kV in Tasmania) to lower voltage distribution network. In Tasmania, the lower voltage distribution network is predominantly supplied from substations in the transmission network – zone substations only supply certain parts of greater Hobart, Kingston and Zeehan. As we're responsible for both the transmission and distribution networks in Tasmania, and to meet the intent of the National Electricity Rules, we make available both transmission and zone substation data for the annual substation reports.

Interested parties can request the 10-year substation report and/or annual substation reports. These reports cover the following periods:

  • 10-year substation report – 1 January 2004 to 31 December 2013 (we don't have data available for early in this period for all substation)
  • Annual substation reports – 1 January to 31 December for each year from 2014

Our reporting year for the purpose of this requirement aligns with the calendar year, from 1 January to 31 December. Annual substation reports are available from 1 February of the subsequent year. The reports are provided in comma-separated values (.csv) format and the load information provided:

  • Is at a substation level for load supplied to the sub-transmission and distribution networks only. Information on load supplied to transmission-connected customers, the sub-transmission network, and ancillary loads is not included
  • Does NOT include information from Huon River and Newton substation for reasons of confidentiality of the customer supplied from them
  • Is presented as real (MW) and reactive (MVAr) power, with the exception of some sites
  • Is provided as an average at half-hourly intervals

By requesting the 10-year substation report and/or annual substation reports, interested parties acknowledge that:

  1. Any substation information provided by us is raw data, and we haven't analysed or validated the quality or accuracy of that data
  2. We make no warranty or guarantee as to the quality, accuracy or suitability for any particular purpose of the substation information

The 10-year substation report and/or annual substation reports may be requested by emailing Planning.Enquiries@tasnetworks.com.auWe'll provide the report(s) within 30 business days of receiving a request.
