Lighting Up Christmas for Tassie Kids
As we approach the end of 2025, we can feel the magic in the air! This Christmas, TasNetworks is teaming up with Variety, the Children’s Charity, to help spread some joy to families who need it most.
We’re thrilled to be supporting Variety with a $10,000 donation, along with something a little more hands-on: our people across the state are rolling up their sleeves to build children’s bikes throughout December. Because nothing says Christmas morning like the excitement of discovering your very own bike waiting under the tree!
For many Tasmanian families, this season can be tough. Variety Tasmania supports children living with disability, illness or disadvantage, including kids facing financial pressure, social barriers or complex medical needs. Our ongoing support of School Breakfast Clubs on the West Coast, paired with this year’s Christmas partnership, helps Variety continue its incredible work delivering practical help and moments of pure joy.
“Children deserve the chance to flourish – regardless of background, health or circumstances,” TasNetworks Executive People & Stakeholder Renee Anderson said.
“At a time of year centred around connection and generosity, we know many Tasmanian families are doing it tough.
The donation will help fund Variety’s grants and programs, everything from mobility and communication equipment to educational support and inclusive experiences. These aren’t just “extras”; they’re life-changing essentials that open doors for young people right across the state.
“This year, Variety has supported nearly 27,000 children across Tasmania, almost twice as many as the year before. It reflects the increasing challenges families are facing in our communities. We are deeply grateful for partners like TasNetworks, which help us give every child the chance to live, laugh and learn,” CEO Varierty Tasmania Mohammad Aldergham said.
“The safety, the teamwork, the learning – it’s huge. And the people leading this job are doing an awesome job keeping everyone aligned.”
While the financial contribution makes a big difference, our teams are excited to be part of something even more tangible: building bikes for Variety’s Bikes4Kids program. These bikes will be gifted to children who may never have had the chance to own one, giving them independence, confidence, and the simple joy of exploring the world on two wheels.
“A bike is more than a gift. It is confidence, independence and the joy of exploring the world on two wheels,” Mohammad said. We couldn’t agree more!
We’re proud to stand alongside Variety to make this festive season a little brighter for Tasmanian kids. Whether it’s through a bike, a breakfast, or a grant that changes a child’s day-to-day life, all contributingto a stronger, more connected community.
Here’s to a Christmas filled with generosity, joy and big smiles right across Tassie! ✨
