Herbicide use investigation
We're in the process of concluding our investigation in to the use of a herbicide used by the former Hydro-Electric Commission (HEC) and applied by employees from the 1960s to 1980s.
The herbicide was used to spray vegetation underneath transmission lines and some of the chemicals in the herbicide are now known to cause three types of cancer. We identified a small number of people who came into contact with the herbicide during routine work practices at the time and have been working with them to gather information and conduct medical screening where appropriate.
While the investigation is drawing to a close, we remain available to support our people through this as needed. If you have any questions or concerns in relation to this matter, please call our Customer Service Centre on 1300 137 008 to speak with our dedicated support officer.
