Project Marinus event marks next phase of delivery

In early October, TasNetworks and Marinus Link joined government, industry and community leaders at the Heybridge converter station and switching station site in North West Tasmania to mark the start of construction on the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD) and Marinus Link, collectively known as Project Marinus, as works ramp up across Tasmania and Victoria.

The event was opened with a Welcome to Country, followed by addresses from Marinus Link Chair Sandra Gamble and TasNetworks Chair Roger Gill.

Reflecting on the project's journey, Roger spoke about the progress made over almost a decade since Project Marinus was first conceived.

"I'm proud to stand here at Heybridge to officially mark what will be a real turning point for Tasmania," Roger said.

"Tasmania's electricity system is changing, and Project Marinus will create new opportunities for our state. TasNetworks has an important role to play in supporting the energy transition and helping deliver the benefits this project will bring"

Attendees also heard from Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen, Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff and Tasmanian Minister for Energy and Renewables Nick Duigan, who highlighted the significance of Project Marinus for Tasmania and Australia. They spoke about the project's role in strengthening the electricity network, supporting renewable energy and creating opportunities for jobs and investment.

The milestone is another important step in delivering this once-in-a-generation project.
