About Bright Futures Fund

TasNetworks is delivering the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD), a once‑in‑a‑generation upgrade to Tasmania’s electricity transmission network. The project will support Tasmania’s growing energy needs and unlock new renewable energy opportunities across the state.

As part of the NWTD, we have been working closely with community members, local organisations and stakeholders since 2022 to shape a Community Benefits Sharing Program, now called the Bright Futures Fund (BFF).

TasNetworks has committed $10 million to establish the Bright Futures Fund, which is designed to create a positive and lasting legacy for communities located within the NWTD project area.

The BFF will support community led ideas that help local people thrive, delivering benefits across six key focus areas:

  • Health and wellbeing;
  • environmental enhancement;
  • community infrastructure and services;
  • arts and events;
  • skills and education, and
  • fostering a strong sense of community.

An Independent Community Assessment Panel (ICAP) will assess applications to help ensure local voices guide how funding is directed.

The BFF is planned to launch alongside stage 1 construction activities, currently expected to begin in April 2026.

Using a co-design approach to develop BFF

A co-design process was used in the development of the program to ensure that the benefits delivered are the ones that the local community most value. A key aspect of the process was the creation of a Youth Panel.

Expressions of Interest now open

We are now seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from community members to join the Independent Community Assessment Panel.

As a panel member, you’ll play a vital role in:

  • Reviewing funding applications

  • Providing independent advice

  •  Helping guide investment decisions that deliver real, meaningful benefits for local communities

Your voice and local insight will help ensure community priorities are at the heart of every decision the Fund makes.
