The amount of revenue we earn from our customers each year is set by the Australian Energy Regulator. This regulation exists to protect customers by ensuring performance standards and by capping revenues based on expected costs forecast over a 5-year period.
We've received the regulator's final decision on our Transmission Revenue and Distribution Regulatory Proposal 2019-2024. The regulator has allowed us $2,012.5 million to operate the distribution and transmission networks over 5 years from 1 July 2019.
We consulted extensively during the development of the proposal and the final decision ensures we can deliver the current and future needs of our customers.
A consistent and clear message from our customers is that affordability is their primary concern, while significant importance is also placed on delivering safe and reliable services for the Tasmanian community.
We're committed to keeping the increase at around CPI levels for both transmission and distribution customers and we have been able to do that while not compromising the delivery of a safe and reliable electricity supply. The revenue set by the regulator is likely to result in less than a 2% average annual price increase for distribution customers over the 5 years.
