Dual Trade Lineworker

Completing my apprenticeship gave me the chance to build specialist skills in a unique part of the electrical industry. The nature of the work is really dynamic, and it’s a good feeling to be able to give people their power back on cold stormy nights.

Frequently asked questions

  • What apprenticeships are available at TasNetworks?

TasNetworks offers apprenticeships in the Distribution Lineworker, Transmission Lineworker and Electrical Technician trades.

Our apprenticeships provide hands-on training, industry experience and a nationally recognised qualification while earning a wage.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll learn from experienced tradespeople, work outdoors amongst Tasmania’s wild landscapes, and play an important role in helping keep the state's electricity network safe and reliable.

  • What's the difference between a Distribution Lineworker and a Transmission Lineworker?

A Distribution Lineworker is responsible for the local electricity network that delivers power to homes, businesses and communities. This includes overhead powerlines, transformers, substations and public lighting.

A Transmission Lineworker is responsible for the high-voltage transmission network that transports electricity across Tasmania from sources of energy generation (hydropower, wind farms, gas power stations). This role involves working on large transmission towers, conductors and associated infrastructure, often at significant heights within teams.

Both roles offer exciting opportunities to work outdoors, develop specialist skills and contribute to Tasmania's energy future.
